Departing from London Paddington, enjoy a memorable journey to the beautiful South Devon coast, where a choice awaits between the traditional seaside resort of Paignton and the picturesque waterside village of Kingswear.

As you settle into the beautifully restored heritage carriages, we make our way west through rolling countryside to Taunton, where our steam locomotive joins for the scenic run along one of England’s most breathtaking coastal routes.

Following the estuary of the River Exe, we sweep around its mouth before running beside the shoreline for mile after mile. We then continue onto the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway, where our locomotive is put through its paces, climbing high above the Devon hills before descending to the Dart Estuary at Kingswear.

Whether you choose Kingswear or Paignton, your day will be enriched by coastal scenery, heritage attractions and the relaxed rhythm of seaside life.

This trip will be steam hauled between Taunton and Kingswear in both directions.

Paignton

One of the brightest jewels in the English Riviera’s crown, Paignton welcomes visitors with its long sandy beach, traditional pier, colourful beach huts and elegant seafront promenade. Framed by the beautiful coastline of South Devon, this much-loved resort combines classic seaside charm with a relaxed atmosphere and a wealth of attractions waiting to be discovered.

Whether you choose to stroll along the waterfront, browse the town’s shops and cafés, or simply relax and enjoy the fresh sea air, Paignton offers the perfect blend of traditional seaside appeal and spectacular coastal scenery.

Kingswear

Set on the eastern bank of the River Dart, opposite the historic town of Dartmouth, Kingswear is a picturesque waterside village renowned for its colourful cottages, maritime charm and stunning river views. Surrounded by the beautiful South Devon coastline, this peaceful destination offers a relaxed atmosphere and an ideal setting in which to unwind.

Whether enjoying a leisurely stroll along the waterfront, watching the boats pass by on the River Dart, or taking the short ferry crossing to explore the bustling harbour town of Dartmouth, visitors will find plenty to discover in this delightful corner of the English Riviera.

Inspired by the regions we steam through, our menus are crafted using the finest locally sourced, seasonal ingredients.

Guests are seated in plush armchair-style seats at elegantly dressed tables for two or four, adorned with crisp white linens, fine china, sparkling glassware, fresh flowers, and plump cushions – evoking the grandeur of a more refined era.

On a full-day journey, guests will be welcomed on board with a chilled Champagne Bellini, followed by a multi-course breakfast. On the return journey, they are greeted with a glass of Champagne and canapés followed by a four-course evening meal, complemented by half a bottle of wine per person.

A sanctuary for those seeking a refined, leisurely experience without formal on-board dining. First Class offers an unparalleled journey into the past aboard elegantly restored carriages, with spacious, cushioned seating arranged around tables for two or four.

Experience classic travel in our First Class carriages, where vintage charm meets modern comfort. Elegant interiors, attentive service and picture windows framing picturesque landscapes make every moment a memory to treasure.

First Class allows guests to bring their own picnic while enjoying complimentary tea and coffee, and a welcome celebratory drink served by our stewards.

Additional drinks and snacks may be purchased to enjoy at your seat, or you can add a traditional Afternoon Tea to your booking (supplement applies) for a touch of indulgence.
